Get Better Sleep

Do's

•  Retain a regular routine to ensure that you are getting enough (but not too much) sleep.

•  Maintain your room at an appropriate comfort level, including temperature, light, and noise.

•  Adopt a pattern of regular relaxing behaviors to relax you before bedtime.

•  Avoid using your bed for anything other than sleeping or relaxing.

•  Exercise regularly.

 

Don'ts

•  Avoid eating or drinking large amounts before bedtime.

•  Avoid alcohol and caffeine before bedtime

•  Do not nap during the middle of the day or evening.

•  Don't smoke.

•  Avoid dwelling on troubling or intense thoughts before trying to sleep, or set up a ‘worry time' during the day to address your concerns.

•  If you can't fall asleep within 30 minutes, get up and do something easy until you are sleepy.

•  Long term use of sleeping pills should be avoided.
